Draftsman Beer Company Brewing Up Something New in Monte Vista

New locally owned brewery is preparing to open in downtown Monte Vista

Draftsman Beer Company, announced by a “Coming Soon” sign recently posted at a downtown lot, is expected to open at 215 Adams Street in Monte Vista. According to the brewery’s website, the business is owned and operated by Ryan Martz, a San Luis Valley native who developed his passion for brewing after beginning his career as a technical draftsman.

Martz spent years designing equipment for rail and defense-related projects before diving deeper into the world of craft beer. While honing his brewing skills, he entered competitions, earned medals, and became both a Certified Beer Judge and Certified Cicerone, credentials that reflect advanced knowledge of brewing and beer evaluation.

The new brewery appears to be taking shape in a fenced courtyard-style property in downtown Monte Vista. The lot features picnic tables and open outdoor space, while a newly installed metal building at the back of the property is likely to house the brewery operations and taproom. While that portion has not been officially confirmed, the layout strongly suggests a combination of indoor brewing space with an outdoor beer garden area where visitors can gather.

The brewery plans to feature rotating craft beers and host food trucks throughout the week, giving visitors a chance to pair locally brewed beer with a variety of local food options. Guests will also be welcome to bring in food from nearby downtown restaurants.

If all goes as planned, Draftsman Beer Company could become Monte Vista’s first dedicated craft brewery — something many residents have long hoped to see in the community. Small-town breweries often become gathering places that bring residents together while also attracting visitors exploring the San Luis Valley.

For now, locals are keeping an eye on the progress at the Adams Street site. With the sign now up and work underway, Monte Vista may soon have a new place to raise a glass.
