Million dollar lottery win in the San Luis Valley

an Alamosa resident wins with scratch-off lottery ticket

An Alamosa resident recently experienced a life-changing moment by winning $1 million from a scratch-off lottery ticket purchased at a local Walmart Supercenter.

According to the Colorado Lottery, the winner, a cellphone representative, decided to try his luck during a challenging sales day by buying a $20 ticket.

"I was having a tough sales day, and it actually paid off," he shared. "My reaction was total disbelief."

Before this significant win, the most he had ever won from a scratch-off was $20.

This victory holds profound meaning for his family, who have faced hardships, including periods of unemployment and living in a shelter.

"I definitely plan on giving my girlfriend and kids a life that I never thought was possible," he said. "A little hope and perseverance and a gift of luck are going to give us a life we have been working very hard to have."

In recent times, Colorado has seen several substantial lottery wins. For instance, in April 2025, a Grand Junction man won $1 million on a scratch ticket purchased at a local Safeway. He expressed plans to take his children to Disneyland to celebrate the win.

Similarly, in August 2023, a Thornton resident won $3 million from a Monopoly 500X scratch ticket. Remarkably, he achieved this just 11 days after playing a Colorado Lottery game for the first time.

These stories highlight the transformative impact of lottery wins on individuals and families across Colorado.
