Agriculture education in Monte Vista, CO for young learners

Discover the kids agriculture festival and 4-H youth programs

In Monte Vista, Colorado, the recent Kids Agriculture Festival offered young learners an immersive experience into the world of agriculture.

Hosted at the Ski-Hi Complex, the event featured interactive stations designed to educate children about various facets of farming and food production.

One popular station allowed children to hold live baby chicks, providing a hands-on lesson in poultry farming.

Another station engaged students in the journey of pizza ingredients from farm to table, illustrating the time and effort involved in producing everyday foods.

Weaving demonstrations introduced the basics of textile production, while a flower station educated attendees on plant growth and pollination processes.

Additionally, a soil education station emphasized the importance of healthy soil in agriculture, complemented by a themed snack to reinforce the lesson.

These activities not only entertained but also instilled a deeper appreciation for agriculture among the youth.

For those interested in further agricultural education, the San Luis Valley Area Fair is scheduled for July 30 to August 8, 2026, at the Ski-Hi Complex.

This event offers additional opportunities for young learners to engage with agriculture through various exhibits and activities.

For more information on upcoming events and programs, contact the CSU San Luis Valley Extension Office at 719-852-7381.

These initiatives continue to foster a connection between the community's youth and the agricultural heritage of the region.
