The San Luis Valley made a powerful statement at the 2026 CHSAA State Wrestling Championships, with athletes from across the region earning podium finishes and showcasing the Valley’s continued wrestling dominance.
Leading the charge were state champions Mathieu Dean of Monte Vista (2A, 106 lbs), Jeremiah DeLaCerda of Alamosa (3A, 106 lbs), Uriah Martinez of Alamosa (3A, 138 lbs), and Samantha Maestas of Alamosa (Girls, 120 lbs).
Alamosa’s success extended beyond individual titles. The Mean Moose finished as the Class 3A state runner-up with an impressive 119.5 team points, cementing their status as one of Colorado’s top programs. Gizelle Meraz added to the team’s momentum as a regional champion and state finalist at 115 pounds.
Other SLV schools delivered standout performances. Center’s Michael Archuleta battled his way to the 2A 120-pound semifinals before falling in a tight 8-5 decision to the eventual champion. Centauri’s Spencer Smith reached the 3A 190-pound semifinals, while Sargent’s Tomas Benavides (113 lbs) and Donovan Heineman (132 lbs) represented the Farmers after strong regional finishes.
With multiple champions, semifinalists, and qualifiers, the San Luis Valley once again proved it is a force on Colorado’s wrestling stage.
