Public mural art opportunities in Del Norte, Colorado

Explore the Del Norte mural project and connect with San Luis Valley artists

Del Norte is seeking talented mural artists to bring a new public art project to life.

The D Mountain Park & Recreation District has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for a mural that highlights the rich history of local foods and the contemporary "food is medicine" movement.

According to the RFP, "The mural will celebrate our Indigenous heritage, sustainable agricultural practices, community gardens, and the enduring relationship between people and place."

This opportunity is open to all artists, with a possible preference for those from the San Luis Valley.

Applicants must be 18 years or older.

Proposals, along with supporting documentation, should be emailed to D Mountain Park & Recreation District advisory board member Grace Young at geyoung@adams.edu.

For more details, interested artists can refer to the full RFP.

In addition to this project, the San Luis Valley has a vibrant mural scene.

For instance, Alamosa has been dubbed the "town of the mural," with a series of 12 mural panels along 6th Street showcasing the beauty of the Valley.

These murals, created by artists Bianca Maestas and Katie Dokson, depict various natural aspects of the region, from wildlife to landscapes.

Another notable work is the "San Luis Valley Heritage" mural by Ian Wilkinson, located on the exterior of the San Luis Valley Museum in Alamosa.

This massive piece consists of 85 individual murals representing the region's past, present, and future.

These projects reflect the community's commitment to public art and provide inspiration for artists considering the Del Norte mural opportunity.

Engaging in this project not only allows artists to showcase their talents but also to contribute to the cultural and historical tapestry of the San Luis Valley.

Interested artists are encouraged to submit their proposals promptly to be part of this meaningful endeavor.
